What is ChessSight.ai

The intelligent bridge between board and screen

ChessSight.ai is a concept iOS application that uses AI to read physical chess boards in real time, translating the arrangement of pieces into precise digital notation without a single keystroke.

Born from reverence for over-the-board play and a conviction that technology should serve the game, not replace it. Whether you coach students, compete in clubs, or simply love the art of chess, ChessSight.ai transforms how you capture and study positions.

Capabilities

Three tools, one seamless experience

Board Recognition

Point your camera at any physical chess board and ChessSight.ai instantly maps every piece to a precise digital position, regardless of set style, lighting, or angle.

FEN & PGN Export

Convert any scanned position to industry-standard FEN or PGN notation with one tap, ready to paste into Lichess, Chess.com, or any analysis engine of your choosing.

Blunder Analysis

After scanning a game, ChessSight.ai reviews every move, flags mistakes and blunders, and explains precisely what the engine recommends instead, move by move.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know

ChessSight.ai reads most over-the-board photos with a high degree of fidelity, even across varied lighting, piece sets, and angles. When a square is partly occluded or genuinely ambiguous, it is flagged for your review rather than guessed at — a moment of verification beats a confident mistake.
The system has been trained on a broad spread of Staunton-style sets — tournament plastic, club wood, and most standard themed sets. Heavily figurine or stylised pieces (animal sets, abstract art designs) are still readable, but accuracy can dip; we recommend confirming the position before exporting.
Yes. Photograph a position at any stage and the app will reconstruct it — opening preparation, middlegame study, or endgame analysis. From a single still, side-to-move and castling rights cannot be inferred and default to sensible values; you can adjust them in one tap on the board editor.
Images are sent to the analysis service for the sole purpose of producing your position and are not retained on our servers. Recent analyses are kept locally on your device, in your browser, and never leave it. We do not sell, share, or monetise your uploads.
Every analysis exports as standard FEN and PGN, so the position drops cleanly into Lichess, Chess.com, ChessBase, SCID, and any modern engine. One-tap shortcuts open the position directly in Lichess or Chess.com analysis when you'd rather skip the copy-paste.
